    I've been out of the U.K. for some while, on return to my computer I've
    been bombarded with pop up's from some messenger service offering
    any thing from viagra to virgins. I'm looking for a good blocking program.
    Any ideas Thanks

    Hi

    Rather than use a blocking program just disable the Messenger service in Windows.

    Windows 2000
    Click Start-> Settings-> Control Panel-> Administrative Tools->Services
    Scroll down and highlight "Messenger"
    Right-click the highlighted line and choose Properties.
    Click the STOP button.
    Select Disable or Manual in the Startup Type scroll bar
    Click OK

    Windows XP Home
    Click Start->Settings ->Control Panel
    Click Performance and Maintenance
    Click Administrative Tools
    Double click Services Scroll
    down and highlight "Messenger"
    Right-click the highlighted line and choose Properties.
    Click the STOP button.
    Select Disable or Manual in the Startup Type scroll bar
    Click OK

    Windows XP Professional
    Click Start->Settings ->Control Panel
    Click Administrative Tools
    Click Services
    Double click Services Scroll
    down and highlight "Messenger"
    Right-click the highlighted line and choose Properties.
    Click the STOP button.
    Select Disable or Manual in the Startup Type scroll bar
    Click OK

    Windows NT
    Click Start ->Control Panel
    Double Click Administrative Tools
    Select Services-> Double-click on Messenger
    In the Messenger Properties window, select Stop,
    Then choose Disable as the Startup Type
    Click OK

    Hope that helps.

    Along with disabling the service, you might want to add a popup blocker. One of the best is the Google toolbar. It allows you to block popups and best of all it is free for download from Google.

    Glad I could help :)

    You might want to consider installing a firewall, I use ZoneAlarm it's free.
