Every day I get pop up windows on my computer even when I am not surfing the net. I am always conneced of course but which pop up window remover program is the best? There are so many.

I find it really amusing however that one of the annoying pop up windows is an advertisment for a program to get rid of them. why would I pay money to someone who does business like this?!?

If there is one that removes spam emails too that would be great to know which. I want one that wont eliminate regular emails. I heard of that happening to people.

    Does this sound familiar?

    http://www.itc.virginia.edu/desktop/docs/messagepopup/

If it doesn't, download Spybot - Search & Destroy

It looks for spyware, but also targets dialers, keyloggers, and other nasties, and it's freeware.

After installing, first press Online, and search for, put a check mark at, and install all updates.

Next, close all Internet Explorer windows, hit 'Check for Problems', and have SpyBot remove all it finds.

NOTE: SSD will sometimes not be able to remove all active components in the first 'run'.
In that case you will get a dialog asking you to run SSD at next start.
    Click yes and reboot.
Subsequently SSD will come up before the system puts these components 'in use', and it will then be able to 'fix' the rest.

When you've done all that, test your system, and see whether your problem is gone.

    Cheers,

Wow I was just about to post the same question as yanman did. I'm having the same problem with pop ups with the last one being an ad for a pop up blocker. I'm going to try that program you metioned and hope it works.

Also if you are not using one - considering downloading a Firewall from here :

    http://www.free-firewall.org

These will generally be ablee to stop a fair number of popups themselves if correctly configured. Also they are free for home users and do not expire after a trial period.
