Hello, before i ask i would like to mention i cant understand in depth computer details so you may have to explain how to do something to me if its hard.

I keep getting pop ups when i visit sites and even when im not even online. I have just reformatted my computer a month ago because of a virus with the same symptoms (WinAntiVirus, i didnt install it jsut kept getting popups) Even when i had never installed or downloaded anything it just popped up on my computer. Please help!

Oh and i run Windows XP SP2 and Norton AntiVirus. Im also 13 but my father taught me alot about the computer and i apperantly am capable of doing more than my mother can (HA!). She also just bought the Norton subscription after i reformatted so i wouldnt get it again but it stil does.

Another thing i hav enoticed is that my cookie settings keep going down to Accept all cookies. Even after i set it to Block all cookies.

Please help! I do not wish to reformat again! (I can also get my dad to do the regestry things and others that could potentionaly destroy my computer.

Sounds like it could be a Vundo.Trojan problem. Here are the instructions I received earlier today. Maybe it could help you as well.

Please download VundoFix.exe to your desktop.
Double-click VundoFix.exe to run it.
Click the Scan for Vundo button.
Once it's done scanning, click the Remove Vundo button.
You will receive a prompt asking if you want to remove the files, click YES
Once you click yes, your desktop will go blank as it starts removing Vundo.
When completed, it will prompt that it will shutdown your computer, click OK.
Turn your computer back on.
Please post the contents of C:\vundofix.txt and a new HiJackThis log.

Note: It is possible that VundoFix encountered a file it could not remove.
In this case, VundoFix will run on reboot, simply follow the above instructions starting from "Click the Scan for Vundo button." when VundoFix appears at reboot.

Download this tool to your desktop:
http://www.uploads.ejvindh.net/rootchk.exe
Run the program. After a short time a logfile will turn up. Copy the contents of the log into the thread.

Notice: Some security-programs prevent the creation of dummy drivers with certain names. This may cause false positives. If the log of rootchk contains a lot of hidden drivers, you may want to turn of your security programs while rootchk is scanning (you should then unhook your network connection as well)

If it is not Vundo, one of the other techs will have to look at your HJT log.

Welcome to TSG :)

You still may be infected.

Download Combofix and save it to your desktop.
http://download.bleepingcomputer.com/sUBs/ComboFix.exe

Note: It is important that it is saved directly to your desktop

Close any open browsers.

Double click on combofix.exe & follow the prompts.
When finished, it shall produce a log for you.

Post the ComboFix.txt in your next reply.

Note:
Do not mouseclick combofix's window whilst it's running. That may cause it to stall

Also, please post a fresh Hijackthis log. Thanks.

1. Please download The Avenger by Swandog46 to your Desktop.
• Click on Avenger.zip to open the file
• Extract avenger.exe to your desktop

2. Copy all the text contained in the code box below to your Clipboard by highlighting it and pressing (Ctrl+C):

Note: the above code was created specifically for this user. If you are not this user, do NOT follow these directions as they could damage the workings of your system.

3. Now, start The Avenger program by clicking on its icon on your desktop.
• Under "Script file to execute" choose "Input Script Manually".
• Now click on the Magnifying Glass icon which will open a new window titled "View/edit script"
• Paste the text copied to clipboard into this window by pressing (Ctrl+V).
• Click Done
• Now click on the Green Light to begin execution of the script
• Answer "Yes" twice when prompted.
4. The Avenger will automatically do the following:
• It will Restart your computer. ( In cases where the code to execute contains "Drivers to Unload", The Avenger will actually restart your system twice.)
• On reboot, it will briefly open a black command window on your desktop, this is normal.
• After the restart, it creates a log file that should open with the results of Avenger’s actions. This log file will be located at C:\avenger.txt
• The Avenger will also have backed up all the files, etc., that you asked it to delete, and will have zipped them and moved the zip archives to C:\avenger\backup.zip.
5. Please copy/paste the content of c:\avenger.txt into your reply along with a fresh HJT log by using Add/Reply

Im scanning with the panda thing now, im wondering, am i supposed to show you the report if anything malicious is found?
It hasnt finished yet but im just wondering. And anyway, the whole time i was at school NO popups popped up (after i did the combo scan and all that) so thats a good sign, and norton hasnt popped up saying it blocked any trojan called WinFixer or something like that.

:) :) :) Thank you! My mom thanks you too lol.

I hop i truely am not infected anymore. ill psot if anything malicious was found.

Run HijackThis, and press "Do a System Scan Only".
1. When the scan is complete place a check mark next to the following entries:

O2 - BHO: (no name) - {1557B435-8242-4686-9AA3-9265BF7525A4} - C:\WINDOWS\system32\lthhcngc.dll (file missing)
O2 - BHO: (no name) - {549B5CA7-4A86-11D7-A4DF-000874180BB3} - (no file)
O2 - BHO: (no name) - {A6E778A3-2364-423D-9100-4AB1E0AB6F43} - C:\WINDOWS\system32\mljjj.dll (file missing)

2. After checking these items CLOSE ALL open windows EXCEPT HijackThis and click "Fix Checked." Then, reboot your computer...

Your Java is out of date. Older versions have vulnerabilities that malware can use to infect your system. Please follow these steps to remove older version Java components and update.

Updating Java:
• Download the latest version of Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 6 Update 1.
• Scroll down to where it says "The J2SE Runtime Environment (JRE) allows end-users to run Java applications".
• Click the "Download" button to the right.
• Check the box that says: "Accept License Agreement".
• The page will refresh.
• Click on the link to download Windows Offline Installation with or without Multi-language and save to your desktop.
• Close any programs you may have running - especially your web browser.
• Go to Start > Control Panel double-click on Add/Remove programs and remove all older versions of Java.
• Check any item with Java Runtime Environment (JRE or J2SE) in the name.
• Click the Remove or Change/Remove button.
• Repeat as many times as necessary to remove each Java versions.
• Reboot your computer once all Java components are removed.
• Then from your desktop double-click on jre-6-windowsi586-p.exe to install the newest version.
