Every time I log into the Internet via the Internet Explorer ( using a cable modem ) I get sometimes up to 50 XXX rated porn links some of which are very graphic. I have 2 small children that like to use the Internet but I find myself having to monitor them to prevent them from viewing these links. The problem started to occur soon after adding the cable to my machine. How can I get these links from occurring ????

Consider installing IE-SPYAD, a registry file that adds a long list of known crapware to the Restricted Sites of your Internet Explorer: http://www.staff.uiuc.edu/~ehowes/resource.htm

After running SB, you could also use Ad-Aware 6 to do a thorough cleaning of your unwanted files.

Go here for the free Ad-Aware 6 Personal Build 181: http://www.lavasoft.de/support/download/

Launch the program ... on the start-up screen, you will need to first run the Webupdate Feature (globe at the top), or click "check for updates" to get the Reference File up to date.

Please use the Custom Scan with Memory and Both registry scans ON. Also.... make sure that you activate IN-DEPTH scanning before you proceed.

Then see that you have these options checked:
Under Ad-Aware 6 Settings, Tweaks, Scanning Engine:
"Unload recognized processes during scanning."
Under Ad-Aware 6 Settings, Tweaks, Cleaning Engine:
"Let Windows remove files in use after reboot."

Next ...

Run Ad-Aware 6.
Mark the objects you wish to eliminate for removal. There are many options available with a right-click.
Make a Quarantine only if you do not have the Auto-Quarantine option ON.
Then choose "Next" to remove the chosen objects.
Finally ... Reboot

Please read http://forums.techguy.org/t164245/s.html for further instructions, settings , etc.

At that point, a HT log would be useful to examine ... in case anything has slipped past these anti-trackware applications.

Socks...........do this.

First....
Download AdAware 6 181
Before you scan with AdAware, check for updates of the reference file by using the "webupdate".
Then ........

Make sure the following settings are made and on -------"ON=GREEN"
From main window :Click "Start" then " Activate in-depth scan"

then......

click "Use custom scanning options>Customize" and have these options on: "Scan within archives" ,"Scan active processes","Scan registry", "Deep scan registry" ,"Scan my IE Favorites for banned URL" and "Scan my host-files"

then.........

go to settings(the gear on top of AdAware)>Tweak>Scanning engine and tick "Unload recognized processes during scanning" ...........then........"Cleaning engine" and tick "Automaticly try to unregister objects prior to deletion" and "Let windows remove files in use at next reboot"

then...... click "proceed" to save your settings.

Now to scan it´s just to click the "Scan" button.

When scan is finished, mark everything for removal and get rid of it.

then
Download Spybot - Search & Destroy from http://security.kolla.de

After installing, first press Online, and search for, put a check mark at, and install all updates.
Next, close all Internet Explorer and OE windows, hit 'Check for Problems', and have SpyBot remove all it finds that is marked in RED.

Run an online antivirus check from at least one of the following sites
http://security.symantec.com/default.asp?
http://housecall.trendmicro.com/
http://www.pandasoftware.com/activescan/

Then....Then...go to http://www.tomcoyote.org/hjt/ , and download 'Hijack This!'.
Unzip, doubleclick HijackThis.exe, and hit "Scan".

When the scan is finished, the "Scan" button will change into a "Save Log" button.
Press that, save the log somewhere, and please copy & paste its contents to the forum.

It will possibly show issues deserving our attention, but most of what it lists will be harmless or even required, so do NOT fix anything yet.
Someone here will be happy to help you analyze the results.

Did all that BlueSpruce suguested and things are looking great.

That's so much, I am now a happy surfer once again.

The only problem or maybe question is that after I performed the last Hijack This and delete exercize and rebooted my desktop now has about 32 backup 2003 icons on my desktop.

Should I just delete them ?

One other thing that was happening before and is now back. When I log on to my account I'm getting these message pop-ups and I forgot how I had gotten rid of them before. I think it has something to do with windows messaging which now shows up on my active tool-bar. I just received another one. In the blue box it reads Messenger Service. And it read message from system alert to unsafe user on 10/9/2003 11:04:20PM, Did you know that there is a one-click easy way to stop these pop-ups FOREVER. Free info just click ******* Anyway here is my current Hijack This scan.
