My COM port has been working fine on this machine until about a week ago, and now in device manager there are yellow exclamation marks by both my COM and LPT port. The errors for both are: Windows successfully loaded the device driver for this hardware but cannot find the hardware device. (Code 41).

Any ideas what this could mean? I can't think of anything i've done recently that would have brought on this problem. I've updated the bios to try to fix it, but that has done nothing.

Sorry, got busy here and didn't get back to you. The reason I needed OS was to tell you how to maybe fix this. Boot into Safe Mode, go to Device Manager, look for your COM and LPT ports, if there are multiple entries, remove all of them. To remove them right click each entry and select delete, then reboot/restart the computer. Windows should then find and reinstall those ports.

Been there, done that. It rescans for hardware changes, finds the ports, and gives the same errors. Thanks for the help though.
