one of my computers has 1 GPA port, and 3 PCI ports.
The video card is in the GPA port. Im planning on getting a new one so iwas wondering if it matters if i get a PCI or GPA video card. Can i stick it in any of teh 4 ports?
can i even put 2 at once?? 1 in GPA and one in PCI? idont know much about this stuff.

You mean AGP port? Well the slowest AGP port is twice as fast as a PCI , and the fastest is 8 times faster. So its a no brainer that if you want performance you want an AGP video card. PCi cards are far and few in between and cost more then their equivilant AGP video card.

There is a GPA card that Intel uses as additional memory for the integrated graphics. Like all Intel integrated graphics solutions it still makes the graphics junk. You'd want to remove that card and install an AGP video card.

lol i wrote it wrong .... i did mean AGP. The thing is i got this new computer for free with pentium 4 and gig ram, which is definitely an improvement over mym pentium 3 and 512 ram.... only problem is the video card is an ati 32m video card. and it was in the only AGP port.
I actually thought that pci was better..... I hope i can find a 256 pixel shader support video card. I REALLY WANT TO PLAY elder scrolls 4 oblivion. If any of you know where i can get a video card like that (hopefully Geforce ..) thats not too expensive. I mean AGP ports are old arent they??
P.S. Are PCI express ports the newest and the best???

PCI-Express are indeed the newest and greatest.

Look here for performance charts: http://www23.tomshardware.com/graphics.html
Most of those cards are AGP or can be bought in AGP, the top end cards though are only available in PCI-Express.

    Have a budget in mind?

It'll tell you all about your computer.

PCI is a shared bus, and it has a max bandwidth of 133MB/s.
AGP is a dedicated bus for video cards. Bandwidth varies on the AGP version:
    AGP 1X: 266MB/s
    AGP 2X: 533MB/s
    AGP 4X: 1066MB/s
    AGP 8X: 2133MB/s
PCI-Express X16 is the newest bus with a max bandwidth of 4266MB/s.

The 7800 GT is good, but the GS is better.
