Possible Viral Infection

    During the past several months, I have noticed that my laptop computer has lagged in performance. I had Norton Anti-virus software subscriptions since purchasing my computer, regularly updating its database, while routinely scanning for any problems. Just recently, I was enlightened by HijackThis, while perusing around a few internet forums. One thread recommended to scan your computer with several spyware/malware detecting programs [prior to running HijackThis] to rid your computer of any bugs and unwanted junk that hinder computer performance. I abided, and most of the results yielded nothing. However, I opted to run a spyware detective program already installed on my computer, in addition to the ones listed. It managed to detect three threats and 'delete' them. Unfortunately, upon performing another scan with the same program, it detected the three threats yet again; a trojan downloader, a transponder and a rogue security software. Thus, I am convinced my system is infected, resulting in the poor performance I have been experiencing.
