power dvd problem

please help.i own a e-machines 6oo.i cant get power dvd to play dvds.the system crashes or just will not load.
ive closed all running programs before i run it,but have not closed explorer,trystray,printray.is it safe to do this to see if it cures the problem.
if its not this could u suggest wats wrong.help please.

Hiya and Welcome

This is a hardware question, but I'll have a go. I have found the specs for your PC. Id your DVD called Power? I don't think it is, but I could be wrong.

Lets first see if there are any conflicts. Go to Control Panel, then System. Go to the Device Manager tab, and look under DVD or CD ROM. Is there a yellow !

Also, whilst you're there, you will also be able to find the name of the manufacturer of the drive. Can you tell us?

for eddie,i read youre last thread,and there are no conflicts in the device manager tab.
i played a dvd tday and by some fluke it played but when i tried another it said file read error and a list of nos./im thinking now of uninstalling the entire poer dvd program and reinstalling another player.
do u think this might work,or have another ideas to solve my woes.cheers,neil pc misery.

Ah, power dvd is the program. Now I understand.

Is it called CyberLink PowerDVD? If so, what is the version number? If not, what is the manufacturer of the program?

In the Device Manager's Properties > Settings page for the DVD drive, is there a check box for DMA? If there is, try unchecking it.
