i have a asus a8v-mx motherboard ,which i have put with a amd 64 3500+. now when i turn the computer on nothing happens but if i take the processor out it all runs, or if i leave the processor in and unplug the 4-pin 12v power the computer runs but does not boot up in either case.

next i put the processor in my mates computer and it starts up and runs but there is no signal to his monitor.

could some one please shed some light on what is going on?

    cheers dean

Maybe a bad processor if it doesn't work in two systems. Does another processor work in your system?

    Its possible.

If its a newly assembled system then there may be a short. Its best to setup the motherbaord outside the case with minimal hardware; PSU, CPU, 1 stick of RAM, and video card.
