Is there an easy way to put live video like a commercial onto a power point slide?

I know how to insert the media, but I need to know how to get it into the right format.

PowerPoint supports many different video formats. If you wanted to get a commercial, you would have to rip it onto your computer HDD and (most likely) compress it. There are a number of video suites and hardware to do this. Once you have it in a common video format (like windows media, avi, mpeg) you can insert it into your presentation.
