I bought a new case from colorcases.com and a new Enermax power supply from Micro Pro. The PSU has an intake fan that is supposed to be on the bottom. However, the holes do not line up ( not even close ) when I try to put it in, fan down. If I install it fan up, it lines up perfect. Doesn't sound right, the intake fan should not be getting air from the top of the case ( between the top of the PSU and the case roof ).

Am I missing something? PSU is an Enermax EG465P-VE.

I have a new antec True Power 430 going into a Lian Li PC85 case that will mount the same. Top fan will pull the hot air from the top of the case and vent it out. My opinion, hot air rises and collects at the top of the case, why not vent it out through the power supply, still cool enough to cool the power supply

I don't think I've seen a power supply that had its intake right by the cpu. Most intakes are toward the front of the case, facing the ide drives. I agree with the other post, mount it so the fan is on top where the hot air collects and won't move otherwise. The fan is probably strong enough to suck it up and around anyway, especially when the air can't come from anywhere else.

Every PSU I have seen with the additional fan has always pointed down and was not oriented between the power supply and the top of the case. That's the way they come....

I have to go with the herd on this point, I've never seen a P/S with a top mounted fan. Since many cases don't have much (or any) clearance at the top, this makes sense. :)

I was hoping someone had the same PSU. I agree that it seems odd that the intake fan would be squeezed into the top area. I really do believe that the PSU is installed upside down and that the intake fan should be facing down, towards the mobo. The problem is, the holes are not even close to lining up when the intake points downward and it lines up perfectly with it facing up towards the top of the case. I needed the system running, so I have it installed fan up, for now.

Enermax told me to contact my reseller, they haven't responded yet.

I recently put in a new PS. I noticed that the PS was connected to sort of a face plate which wa in turn connected to the case If yours is can you turn the faceplate around?
