prblem explorer

    XP pro

    With explorer NOT internet explorer

    Everytime i try 2 open a folder or drive it crashes no blue screen
    i load up task manager it says NOT RESPONDING so i end process

    I have scanned for viruses, adware,trojans etc etc not a prob found

    Can i fix this problem ? and how ?

    Is there an alternative to explorer ? what is it ?

    PS. REMEMBER not Internet explorer

    It sounds like Windows Explorer is damaged and needs repairing.

    Go:

    Start - Run - type in the run box: sfc /scannow
    Note the space after sfc.

    That should try and repair all system files.

    If that does not work, try option #2

    Now, although you have stated several times that its Windows Explorer and not Internet Explorer that the problem lays with, I will suggest that you reload Internet Explorer.

    Why you ask?

    Windows Explorer uses many/most of the system files of Internet Explorer, and refreshing IE can usually fix Windows Explorer.

    If you can reload off your system disks, then do so. Otherwise use the cover CD from a computer magazine, most seem to have IE6 on them from time to time.

    It asks me to verify windows files via sp1 cd

    I have sp1 on a cd magazine disk. i insert it it tells me wrong cd DUH

    how do i verify windows files via the magazine servive pack

    There was no restore point available

    I rang Microsoft about this to advised me do the following

    Check versions of IE - all correct

    Unistall SP1 - Done

    install latest IE from microsoft site - done

    check to see if windows explorer has same problem - IT does

    Reinstall SP1 - done

    check to see if windows explorer has same problem - IT does

    So 1 hour on the phone unistalling rebooting problem still there

    plz help
