Preload OS on a dsktp HD then put into Laptop

    Pretty much like it says:
    Can i preload XP onto a hard using my desktop PC then move the drive to a laptop I am trying to revive ?

    No. It needs to be installed on the machine it will run on.

    If it's XP, you can install "from a flat", which means copying the CD to a folder on the drive and then booting the machine in DOS to start the installation. But that won't work on SATA drives which most machines have now.

    thanks this is an older Dell with ide & cd rom drives.

    Does it have a floppy? If not, you would need a bootable DOS CD.

    No Floppy .
    Can you or someone do step by step reply as to making that DOS CD boot disc and the way to load it ?
