I have a preloaded hp pavilion that has been a pain sense I got it. Had already been returned to the store by someone else and I didn't know it till it was too late! ((Had teens at home at the time)) Anyway,, Sometimes it says it has virus some not,, that it is winNT then XP it will work great then crash. What I want to know is if I buy a new XP program will it install over the other mess? I am ready to give up on computers all to together!!

Installing over a mess will give you a mess. The rule whatever in = whatever out. If you have the system recover disk(s) for this HP then you would be better off backing up your important data and running the recovery disks and do a full installation back to day one. If you do not have recovery disks for this HP then this might help you
