I never use Wordpad but my wife asked me type some stuff.
It looked fine on the screen but when I printed it, the first line
was OK but the second line only printed halfway then started
    again two lines below as:

    OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
    OOOOOOOOOOOOOO

    OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

Help would be appreciated or I'll be in the doghouse.

Make sure that the printer driver you're using is the right one for your operating system. Generally, you'll find it on the mfg site, i.e., www.epson.com, www.hp.com, etc.

    ..just like dreamboat said,
..the only other thing might be to check in your bios to see what the printer port settings are,
..less troubles if you use 'spp', [standard parallel port] versus epp, [enhanced parallel port], etc.,
..this works better especially for older printers, newer ones you need the enhanced part, [printing phots, other intricate work],
