I have an epson stylus 400 color printer. I recently had my computer reformatted and now have windows 98, previously I had windows 95. Since then I am no longer able to print. It keeps saying printer is offline. Error writing to Lpt1. I contacted epson and they said to download a new driver. I did this and printer is still not working. I have checked the cables etc so I know it is not that. Please help me thank you.

Hi Buzzmonkey, have you tried deleting and removing the printer completely, restart the computer and re-install it?

Ok I did what you said, now it says printer is online, which it didn't before and it says printer is idle. I tried running nozzle check etc and get same message error reporting to lpt1

Can we double check? Do you have more than one LPT port?

And without me double checking Epson's website (I'm not sure this model printer is available in USB) --- but it is a parallel printer correct? Not USB?

The connector that attaches it to the computer --- does it look a little bit like a telephone connector (little flatter and wider) or is it a larger connector.....like this:

    http://www.pacificcable.com/ParallelCables.htm

Click on PM1-3 -- parallel printer cable.
