I have been using two 300GB external hard drives(Seagate and Maxtor) to
do backups of my laptop, for several months. I have had them hooked up
in a firewire, daisy chain connection. Now, when I turn on the second
hard drive, and start using it, the first one acts funny. It usually
freezes up, stops working, and, when I try to copy files to it, I get an
I/O error message, or "the specified device is no longer available". In Device Manager, it says the first drive(Seagate) is
working ok. I tried using a separate USB connection on the second one,
but the first one still stops working. The first drive works ok, on its
own. Using XP-Home, SP-2. Tried different cables, different second hard drive, same problem. Could a Windows Update affect only one of my external hard drives? Again, it works ok, on its own.
