I run Windows XP Home Edition. When I download Windows Media Player 10, and try to install it, I get a window with this message:
This version of Windows Media Technologies is incompatible with this version of Windows. For more information, view the information at the Microsoft web site.

Naturally, the site has no relevant information that I can see.

Does anyone know what the problem is and how I can fix it?

It appears that wmploc.dll in C:\Windows\System32 is the culprit.
Try to copy the wmploc.dll file from C:\Windows\ServicePackFiles\i386 TO C:\Windows\System32. Now run the WMP 10 installer again and see if it works.

If you go to windows update => custom install => optional software updates

Is WMP10 listed there? If so, does installing it from here work?

Are you running Service Pack 1 or 2(if any)?

Copying the wmploc.dll file as directed worked like a charm. Thanks a bunch!
