Hi,
I am having issues installing Windows XP Professional. My current operating system is the Compaq version of Windows ME. I went through the upgrade process for XP. Everything seemed to install ok, but when the computer re-booted I came up with a black screen. Nothing I did would get me out of the screen.

Any suggestions would be very much appreciated.

Thanks!

If you have the previous version of Windows on CD, I would do a fresh install of XP PRO. Wipe everything off and put only XP PRO on. It takes out any problems that might have existed in your previous windows.

The cause is most likely driver conflicts between the old OS and the new OS. Upgrading instead of doing a fresh install typically causes this to happen.
