i know computers pretty well but i'm a newbie to networking. i'm having problems connecting a winxp home computer and a winxp media center edition computer. i ran the network setup wizard on both and i get a message saying limited or no connectivity on the winxp home computer. i have a dsl internet connection on the media center comp and 2 nic cards in this computer. i'm using a crossover cable to connect the two. i know somewhat about how ip addresses work, but when i try to change the ip address on the xp home comp, it wont let me enter anything at all. can someone please help me? i hope i included enough info.

    On each machine:

Start, Run, CMD to open a DOS window and type:

    IPCONFIG /ALL >C:\RESULT.TXT

Open C:\RESULT.TXT with Notepad and copy/paste the entire results here.

It this the machine with two cards in it? You need to setup ICS on this one if you're trying to share the Internet with the other machine.

Hi and welcome. Why don't you just buy a router? That would be easier.

Candy, I'm a router fanatic, but I'm trying to reform. :D I thought maybe I'd try not using my canned answer, and you come by and do it anyway! :p
