This has been giving me fits for several months.

    Here's the deal:

I sometimes (not always) have this problem when I put a CD in my NEC CD R/W drive. This usually happens when I put my Quicken backup CD in (the disc I save my quicken file to). I insert the disc then backup the file. I then remove the disc from the drive. Here's the confusing part:

The eject button on the drive won't work; I have to open up My Computer, right click on the CD/RW drive and select "eject". The only time the eject button won't work is when I'm having these problems with a backup disc. When I'm listening to a music CD or playing a game, the eject button works fine. But not after I make a backup CD. On to the next problem...

Once the disc is removed, when I go to My Computer>CD RW Drive, up pops the Quicken backup file from my CD (just as if the CD were still in the drive). Why is this happening?

I must now reboot the computer to get my "old" backup file off of the CD drive.

    Thanks for the help.

It seems that Quicken is still trying to "hold" the cd disk ( as in trying to read-write , access it ). So i would suggest first to see if version of Quicken that you are using is up to date ( as in all patched up ). Then might wanna stop quicken from loading in the same time with windows ( since quicken had a "habbit" of loading in the same time with windows and "stay" in the memory).

I run into a similiar issue when I put in an "open" CD-R.My writer will read it,but then won't open.I know that for my situation it is simple, the software that runs my writer is not active on boot (I set it that way) so I just have to start the software and then it sees the disk and allows it to be removed.
I would agree with active95 in that it is a software related issue between Quicken and your writer's software.
