OS - W98SE. When I reinstalled W98SE it caused some problems with my IE6 SP1. So I downloaded IE6 SP1 from MS. I then uninstalled IE6 (SP1) using Add/Remove Programs and reinstalled the IE6 SP1 download - everything seemed to go fine. The problem is that now when I try to install the IE updates I get a message that says "Update requires Internet Explorer 6 Service Pack 1 to be installed". My system indicates that I already have IE 6 SP1 installed. How can I get the updates to recognize this?

1 very common reason for this (4th under cause here---->Microsoft Knowledge Base Article - 821484 )
Simply means you are trying to install a update that was already fixed with the sp1...Seems like they could have worded the error msg a little clearer but that neither here or there now......This was a fairly common problem with a couple of specific updates right after sp1 came out and I'd be willing to bet it's true w/ your system also...What update# do you get this error with???

Thanks, Jack, that's just what was happening - I've rechecked everything and I do have the latest updates installed. You're right, MS's error message was a bit confusing.
