I loaded XP on my Pc and it is running fine.
I used Windows Messenger that came with XP.It is versoin 4.7
I got the newest update from messenger site and downloaded it.
I used add/remove programs to uninstall mess. 4.7
rebooted my pc and installed messenger 5.0
Everything was working fine for a while.
now version 4.7 appears in the taskbar all by itself. If I try to close it ,it tells me that it cannot be closed because certain windows apps might need it to function.
I uninstalled ver 5.0 and reloaded ver 4.7 but 4.7 cannot be updated to 5.0
Can anyone please shed some light on this subject

the one which comes with Xp is called Windows Messenger and it's installed in programfiles\messenger directory while , the 5.0+ versions are MSN MESSENGEr , diffrent one installed in programfiles\MSN messenger \ directory , 2 total diffrent programs , this is wat I THINK

    remove your 5.1 vesion

to get rid of 4.7 version , download XpANtySPy

    take a look here also

after your unintsallation is complete , install the version u want ,my personal suggestion , take out both of them and try DMSN

Pakiya seems to be on it but I just wanted to mention that if it is the same with XP, Messenger is tied to OE. As long as OE is running you wont be able to turn Messenger off. Let us know what your plans are. There are ways to solve this also.

messenger can bring up pop-up advertisements, I advice you to disable it. Here you will find how to do it for windows versions. If you have any questions about it, just ask :)
