problem with operating system message

    hi, i just bought a new pc.. it had vista on it so formatted fully.

    i booted xp from cd and installed. after the blue screen installation my pc rebooted as normal.

    when it loaded up a message says: problem with operating system

    nothing else..

    any help please.

    Does it just stop there or does it actually finish loading windows?

    Specs on the PC might be helpful also.

    a machine with vista may not run xp.

    i tried windows 98, and when it gets to the "windows is starting for the first time" it then says not enough memory or something.... madness....

    Did you repartition? Vista partitions are not XP-compatible.

    Have you tried booting into safe mode?

    yeah tried that...

    its ok i have got vista ultimate on it now.. thanks for the replys..
