    Welcome to TSG!

One of the most common problem causing this is a read only attribute applied to your WAB file.

    Try this.......
Click Start\Find, and then click Files or Folders.
In the Named box, type: *.wab

Set the Look In box to include your local drives and click "Find Now" tab.

NOTE: If you find more than one .wab file, make the following changes for all files.

Right Click one of the .wab files that that were found. Then Click Properties.
In the Properties dialog box, under Attributes, clear the Read-only check box.
Click Apply, and then click OK.
Do for all WAB files found.......
    Then
Open Outlook Express and test a new e-mail message or try to access the Address Book.

Let us know if that solves it becuase there are other problems that also can cause this.

tried what you suggested but the read only was already cleared...just the archive was checked...still can't reply to emails
was wondering if loading windows may have taken up disc space..i had a problem and had to load windows about 3 times..don't that overwrite missing files or does that mean i have 4 sets of windows stored on my hard drive somewhere taking up space..

You can do a repair on Outlook Express by going to Control Panel -> ADD/REMOVE PROGRAMS and to IE or Outlook Express.

You can also Update IE and OE to the latest versions by going to Internet Explorer and Tools, Window Update.

Another thing you can try is to find and remove all *.wab files on the computer. Just move them to another location so you don't lose your contacts - you can import them later. They may be corrupt and causing a problem.
