Problem with secure pages

This computer has recently stopped being able to access secure pages of any kind. IE and Netscape work on nonsecure sites but say they cannot find secure ones, and neither Avant nor Firefox can connect to the internet at all. When I try Windows Update I get Error 0x80072EFD (I've already tried the suggestions Windows Update gives). I've disabled all the Norton firewall options I could find.

I've been running Adaware and Spyboy S&D, and I just recently got rid of WTools, which had been running in the background (I think completely - regedit, safe mode boot, hijackthis).

I'd really appreciate any suggestions.
Thanks

New version's scan follows.

Before I did this scan I went into msconfig and enabled everything in startup and services.

Thanks for the quick reply, and I hope this makes things a bit clearer.

I am just boggled at how stupid I am.

Having turned on all services in Msconfig I can now see secure pages and use Windows Update just fine. I don't know when I (or someone else) changed these settings, but I'll definitely be more careful in the future.

Thanks again.

can you post another hjt log - you have a few issues in the log, i think (BUT I AM NOT AN EXPERT AT ALL) missing files etc.
now you have reconfigured msconfig - post a log and the gurus will take a look at it.

Go to Add/Remove programs and look for either of these and uninstall it:

WinTools for Internet Explorer V2
WinTools Easy Installer

Restart your computer and scan again with Hijack This then post the new log.
