I purchased a DVD player ( Sony DRU-810A ) and installed it in my computer.
The DVD player came with a disc called Sony Software Disc.

A couple of days ago I uninstalled ( by accident ) the Sony 810 in the
Device Manager and now my computer shows no optical drive anymore which
means I cannot ply a CD or DVD.

I assumed that the disc provided with the DVD player was the driver but this is
not the case.

After I tried to download the appropiate driver from the net and when installing
it I obtained error message: No device found !

How do I correct the problem ?
Reinstall Windows XP ?

Any help is appreciated

Copy the following into Notepad and save it as FIXCD.REG:

------------------------------------copy below this line---------------------------------------------
REGEDIT4

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}]
"UpperFilters"=-
"LowerFilters"=-

[-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Cdr4_2K]

[-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Cdralw2k]

[-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Cdudf]

[-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\UdfReadr]
------------------------------------copy before this line---------------------------------------------

Then double click the file to merge it into your registry, reboot the computer, and check to see if the drive works.

Just to add to above. Windows provides the driver for the drive. What's on the Sony software disc is usually Nero and possibly other software.
