I found a new trojan on my computer in the last 2 days. The name is listed above.

The problems I started having are that the mouse would not respond to open progams from shortcuts on my desktop. I also could open my start menu but none of the programs would start and I could not access the list of 'All Programs' to try to open something. I was also not able to 'Turn Off' my computer. Finally, my last example is that when I tried to run 'Contol-Alt-Delete' to end any processes or to shut down and reboot my computer, I received a 'bell' sound but could not get any response to shutting down the system. I finally turned it off by cutting the power to my powerstrip. I rebooted and things are better, but not perfect.

I cannot find anything in techguy forums or in mcafee virus library or in symantec virus library about this trojan. I tried some of the things that I had used when trying to clear out another problem. I am listing them below.

I ran a ewido scan which identified only 2 files (spyware doctor lists 8 dangerous files) and cleaned them in safe mode. Here are the ewido files that were identified and cleaned.

C:\Documents and Settings\Carol.CAROL-NEW-05\Cookies\[email protected][2].txt -> Spyware.Cookie.Bpath : Cleaned with backup
C:\Documents and Settings\Carol.CAROL-NEW-05\Cookies\[email protected][2].txt -> Spyware.Cookie.Liveperson : Cleaned with backup

I then ran cleanup in safe mode. It removed a bunch of files but the trojan still comes up on the spyware doctor scan.

Here is a list of the locations in the registry that spyware doctor identifies as suspect.

Please send any recommendations you might be able to offer. I am also going to the Microsoft Knowledge base to see what I can find. Thanks.

I ran the housecalls scan and it was clean with no items removed.

I did find some other information at "PCTools" that said that this trojan is the same as another one called Backdoor.fivsec.

http://www.pctools.com/mrc/infections/id/Trojan.Proxy.BK/?ref=yahootf

I looked in the Symantec virus libaray about how to remove this problem but it is rather complex and I'm uncertain about doing it and causing or creating some other problem.

Could you take a look at this and tell me what you think? Thanks.

PS> I have searched using Spybot S&D, Microsoft Antispyware, and Ad-Aware and the only one that identifies the problem is Spyware Doctor.

Click Start, and then click Run.
In the Open box, type regedit, and then click OK.
Locate and then click the subkey that contains the value that you want to edit.
On the File menu, click Export.
In the Save in box, select a location where you want to save the Registration Entries (.reg) file, type a file name in the File name box, and then click Save.

Now navigate to these keys and delete them. Go to HKLM, Software, Microsoft, Tracing. Click on each of these and press the delete key.
HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Tracing\FWCFG

HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Tracing\FWCFG##

HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Tracing\FWCFG##EnableFileTracing

HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Tracing\FWCFG##EnableConsoleTracing

HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Tracing\FWCFG##FileTracingMask

HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Tracing\FWCFG##ConsoleTracingMask

HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Tracing\FWCFG##MaxFileSize

HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Tracing\FWCFG##FileDirectory
Close the registry.

Reboot and try your virus scan again.

I just wanted to ask you a question.

At one of the referenced websites, it says that these files are part of the windows firewall and I'm concerned that removing them might remove my firewall protection.

Do you think that this is true?

Thanks.

First of all I suggested you export the key prior to deleting so you can put it back if you need to.

I need a link to the website you are talking about.

The Symantec site says that this is part of windows firewall and that this type of trojan weakens your firewall.
