First time posting so sorry if this isn't the right section, clueless as to where to put my problem. I got a new laptop and using any voice chat program keeps making it lose net connection, finally narrowed that down after trying multiple things. Skype is running but if I use it to talk to someone, connection drops after a few minutes then comes back on after anywhere from a few seconds to longer, does the same thing when using Msn Messenger voice chat. As long as I'm not talking to someone the problem doesn't occur. Please let me know what other information you may need, sure hope someone can help with this, it's making me crazy! Everything is updated btw. Using Windows Firewall and Avast Anti-virus. Thanks in advance!

Clearly you need to keep your mouth shut until you can visit a voice coach and learn how to make your voice more pleasing! (This is my attempt at humor for this morning.) Welcome to the forum, and I hope I haven't scared you away with that stupidity.

Does this happen regardless of whether you connect by ethernet or wireless, or does one way work and the other not?

Do you lose your IP configuration or just lose communication to the router?

Are you sure it only happens with voice? Not downloading a large file? Not uploading a large file?

When you say "Everything is updated" does that mean that you are sure you have the latest networking driver(s) from your PC manufacturer's web site? If not, getting the latest would be a good start.

For the ethernet controller driver don't count on Windows (or Device Manager) to find the right driver. Actually go to the laptop manufacturer's web site, support section and find the drivers for your model machine; download and install the ethernet driver. If there is not a separate driver it is probably included in the chipset drivers, so get those.

Other than maybe the driver I cannot think of what might cause the voice programs to have trouble while others don't.
