I tried booting Ubuntu from a Live CD
It comes up to the menu and it has the options and the countdown
I press enter on the run/install option and the countdown goes away but nothing happens
So I tried every other option... nothin... the only option that works is boot from the hard drive
I tried writing another CD and still nothing

Hi nickeriss,

Try going into the BIOS and setting your boot order to boot first from CD, next to Hard Drive.

Also, look at the other thread in this forum entitled Grub stopping cd-boot by tohm.

I think this is more to do with a mismatch of the video card.

As the menu shows up that tells me the CD has been booted successfully but a loss of communication followed.

My suggestion is to try different distros. Your video card may be a rare one or one of the top of the range products that a driver has not be made available yet.
