I am trying to bur a back up copy of a film I want to make sure I can keep. I have not burnt any films before,, but I appear to be able to get past the protection but when I try to burn the DVD it appears that the total file size is 2 to 3 times bigger than my DVD. I am a complete novice at this so any pointers in the right direction, appropriate information sources to read, would be greatly appreciated.

Please accept my apologies, I was under the impression that the copying of a DVD purely for backup purposes was not an illegal activity.

    it's a technicality,
you CAN make a backup copy under the 'fair-use' laws,
    HOWEVER,
you have to 'hack-into' or 'break' the 'drm copy protection'
to be able to then exercise your rights,
under the 'fair use' laws to copy it,
    which means you,
    currently under usa laws,
CAN'T do it under the 'fair use' law,
    .
so, 'til it's all sorted out,
    tech support guy forums,
    if you think about it,
would be able to be sued by somebody at least,
AND, this being a VOLUNTEER forum,
    well, just a big mess,
    thus,
tech guy has chosen the safer course here,
to not help people break the law,
