My computer suddenly stopped recognizing dvds or cds. It says that I need to insert a CD even though I have inserted it. I have a HP Pavillion and Lightscribe Dvd Super multi drive/cd writer. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I taped my daughter's dance class and was supposed to make copies of it for the other parents and now my computer won't recognize that I've inserted a DVD. Please help

Have you had this problem with all CDs and DVDs or just burning a certain type in a specific program?

In other words, can you play a music CD? Can you watch a movie? Does Windows recognize a disc in the drive from My Computer after you've inserted one? If all of the above are not working then your drive isn't being recognized. Try checking all the cables and connections and making sure they're snug and tonight. If it's a laptop just make sure the drive is seated snugly.

The bad news is, unless someone else has other ideas, if all of the above fail, your drive has probably died and needs to be replaced.
