first hit control alt delete and end task on all running tasks except systray and explorer.

Try a different video resoloution, go to start/settings/control panel/display/settings tab, generally try reducing the screen area to 800 x 600 x 16bit.

If that doesn't work download new drivers for your video card and upgrade or reinstall directx from microsoft

    Thanks for your reply
I have tried control-alt-delete before - but nothing ever happens! Can you tell me why?
I will try your other suggestions - thanks!

What operating system are you running, win95/98/me etc

You have to press all three keys at once. Not one at a time, so press and hold control, then press and hold alt, then press delete

try start/run/type taskmgr and press enter This is just a guess, might work, might not

You could also try rebooting the machine and hold down the shift key while windows loads, I beleive that will keep it from starting a lot of the startup programs, but haven't done it for awhile.
