Hi agmark

Welcome to TSG! :)

A new version of Hijack This has been released so get rid of the old one and Click here to download the new one, come back here and post the log from it.

Before you post the log from the new version of HJT, please do the following:

* Download the trial version of Ewido Security Suite here.
  • Install ewido.
  • During the installation, under "Additional Options" uncheck "Install background guard" and "Install scan via context menu".
  • Launch ewido
  • It will prompt you to update click the OK button and it will go to the main screen
  • On the left side of the main screen click update
  • Click on Start and let it update.
  • DO NOT run a scan yet. You will do that later in safe mode.

* Go here to download CCleaner.
  • Install CCleaner
  • Launch CCleaner and look in the upper right corner and click on the "Options" button.
  • Click "Advanced" and remove the check by "Only delete files in Windows temp folders older than 48 hours".
  • Click OK
  • Do not run CCleaner yet. You will run it later in safe mode.

* Also Click here to download Nailfix.zip.
Unzip it to the desktop but please do NOT run it yet.

* Click here for info on how to boot to safe mode if you don't already know how.

* Now copy these instructions to notepad and save them to your desktop. You will need them to refer to in safe mode.

* Restart your computer into safe mode now. Perform the following steps in safe mode:

* Once in Safe Mode, double-click on Nailfix.cmd. Your desktop and icons will disappear and reappear, and a window should open and close very quickly --- this is normal.

* Now run Ewido:
  • Click on scanner
  • Put a check by the following before you scan:
    • Binder
      [*]Crypter
      [*]Archives
  • Click the Start Scan button to start the scan.
  • During the scan it will prompt you to clean files, click OK
  • When the scan is finished, look at the bottom of the screen and click the Save report button.
  • Save the report to your desktop

* Start Ccleaner and click Run Cleaner

* Go to Control Panel > Internet Options. Click on the Programs tab then click the "Reset Web Settings" button. Click Apply then OK.

* Restart back into Windows normally now.

* Come back here and post a new HijackThis log, as well as the log from the Ewido scan.

I ran into some some trouble with the active scan. My IE wouldn't let me download what I needed becasue it kept blocking Panda's ActiveX from installing. Is there anyway I can allow it to download?

Here is my HJT log

Go to Internet Options > Security > Internet, press 'default level', then OK.
Now press "Custom Level."
In the ActiveX section, set the first two options ("Download signed and unsigned ActiveX controls) to 'prompt', and 'Initialize and Script ActiveX controls not marked as safe" to 'disable'.

Now go back and try Activescan again. SP2 has a feature that also gives you the option to block or allow tha ActiveX so you will also have to look below the addressbar in IE when you are attempting to run the scan and right click in the yellow bar that will appear there and choose "Allow" to allow the ActiveX to install.

There was one additional thing I had to do to make the ActiveScan work. After I changed my settings, I would get the prompt to install the ActiveX but it would fail. To remedy this, I went to my pop-up blocker manager and allowed *.pandasoftware.com. Granted I got there advertisement pop-ups, but it now allowed me to scan. Maybe this will be useful for other people with a similar problem. I am running the scanner now and I will post the log and a new HJT log upon its completion

Restart your computer.

Go to Control Panel > Internet Options. On the General tab under "Temporary Internet Files" Click "Delete Files". Put a check by "Delete Offline Content" and click OK. Click on the Programs tab then click the "Reset Web Settings" button. Click Apply then OK.

Go here and do an online virus scan. Choose "Complete Scan" and select all drives to scan.

When the scan is finished, anything that it cannot clean have it delete it. Click "Print Report". The report will open in your browser. Go to File > Save As and save the file to your desktop. Under "Save as type" click the dropdown menu and choose "Text file (*.txt) and save it as a text file.

Post a new HiJackThis log along with the report from the Housecall scan

Once again, I am having trouble running this online scan. I even played around with my settings and Windows pop-up blocker more, but could not run it. However, I do own a copy of TrendMicro PC-Cillan. Will that work?

Do you still have SpyDetector still installed? I recommend removing it if you do.

Your log looks good otherwise. Are you having any remaining problems?

Everything "seems" to be in order, however I still can't install the latest Windows Updates. Last time this happened it was be because of a virus. But everything I have ran comes up empty. If I get any other signs of a virus or spyware, I will let you know. Thanks for all the help
