I have Windows Office XP and this occurs only when I am opening up explorer Version 6.

    1. when I click on it, a box opens up saying "Windsows installing"
    2. then it loads another box statin "MS office xp pro with front page, inser MS XP with FRONTPAGE disk
    3. I then click cancel and an error 1706: is displayed "setup cannot find required files
    4. after numerous attempts clicking on CANCEL, IE finally then loads up onto my homepage

    any help would be appreciated.

I have seen some similar problems reported by people after installing Windows Updates. The issue usually occurs because the update did not have available the original installation media for the programs to get certain required files from.

You may need to specifiy just what those files are, and then it may be possible for someone to point you to the right media to insert in the CD drive to find those files.

I haven't had any luck resolving this problem, but have a look at what we covered here:

I'll move you to the Business Applications forum where I think you stand a better chance of getting help.
