The company in which i work for, currently got hit by nimda d virus accross site. all pc's had been scanned using sophos anti virus. things are now back to normal.
The problem that most users are experencing is when they open a word document and modify it then try saving it it doesnt let it save over the existing file

any reason as to why ??

Possible that the original file they are saving to is set to Read Only?

Are these files located on the Network, accessible by many people? It's possible that they are "stuck" in a limbo place in "open" status, which would only allow users to open the file as Read Only. I suggest opening the file, saving it as "file2.doc" where file is the original name, then delete the original file. Rename the File2.doc to file.doc.
