I recently came into possession of a compaq presario 700 laptop loaded with windows xp.
I have had two problems with it that I hope someone can help me with.

First, the laptop has no sound. The sound card is operating " normally" according to Windows and the volume is up and no mutes are on. Sometimes the laptop speakers or the headset I plug in will crackle, indicating to me at least that the hard ware is functioning just something is turned off.

Second, I installed a belkin cardbus wireless adapter. The only problem is when I insert the card a balloon pops up on the toolbar that says the card is connected but teh firmwre is not configured to allow te card to run in cardbus mode, and that it is only configured to run a 16 bit card. I have looked and found no way to change this setting, though to be honest I am only vaguely aware of what it is talking about.

Any input would be helpful. Thanks.
