i have a toshiba satellite L500D and i currently have an AMD Sempron M100 2ghz and it is really slow. i am wanting to upgrade to an AMD Turion II Ultra M600 TMM600DBO23GQ and i am fairly certain it is compatible but i dont really know. is there any reason why this would not work?

It's almost always a bad idea to upgrade the processor in a laptop. The motherboards aren't "standard", they have to be completely torn apart which introduces all kinds of potential problems, and excessive heat is likely to be an issue with a more powerful processor.

Heat/cooling, power consumption, BIOS incompatibility are all reasons why it may not work even if the socket is the same.
