My daughter misplaced her CD jacket for a program she wants to re-install, so when she puts the CD in, it asks for the code number. Is there any place on the PC that may still have this code since Microsoft is of no help? If we don't find the code, she must purchase the software again.
    Thanks,
    bevysr

    Hiya

If the PC is still with Windows installed, go to Run and type REGEDIT

Now Edit | Find and type in ProductKey or Product Key. Can't remember which one as I'm on 2000 now. Click Search and when it finds it, thats your code. If its not found, click F3 to continue surfing.

What OS is it, btw? Also, DON'T delete anything in the registry. Just click the X to close.

    Regards

    Hi Eddie,
Thank you for instructions on the lost product key.
I must have done something wrong so still need your help.
    The program is The Sims.
I went to regedit, then edit, typed in product key, it said searching, & nothing came up. Did I miss a step?
    Thanks,
    Bev

    Hi Bevysr,
Eddie was right but for some reason it didnt pop up. Try going to regedit. Find the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE key click it. Click the plus next to software and see if The Sims is listed . If it is click it and look to the right pane see if you see a product number.

    Hi TW,
Thanks for the instructions for the product ID. The Sims didn't show up, so maybe its listed differently.
    Thanks for your help!

    Hi Bevysr,
Did you uninstall the software? Did you use the softwares uninstaller? Sometimes when you do that it will take out all traces of that software!

    Thanks again TW56,
I've checked through search for any trace of The Sims so my daughter may have used the uninstall programs in the control panel. Darn! She has uninstalled several programs & doesn't remember if she went through the control panel on this one or not.
    Thanks again!
    Bev

    Hiya

Just twigged what you were on about now. If its the product key for a piece of software, then it may be hard to find in the registry. I have Castle Wofenstein on my PC, it has a produck key, but cannot be found in the registry.

I was assuming you were meaning your Microsoft Windows Disk. It may be impossible to find, as many systems will hide this number from fear of pirating.
