    Hi,

I have a brand new Dell Inspirion 1501 Windows XP SP2 laptop.I installed a few programs like Word Perfect 2002, Microsoft Office 2003 and a few other things just for some history. Well today out of nowhere, upon booting up my laptop this morning, this window pops up that says BORLAND SHARED...and I go back and find out that it is in the Program Files/Common folder. I did some searching on the web and it sounds like it could be some kind fo registry thing?? Thought the solutions some described seemed too complicated for me!! Please help!

Open My Computer, go to "Tools", "Folder Options' and select the "View" tab.

Scroll down and look for "Restore previous folder windows at logon" and uncheck it.

    Try this:

Click Start, Run and type "regedit.exe" (without the quotes)

    Navigate to the following location:

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \ Software \ Microsoft \ Windows \ CurrentVersion \ Run

    In the right pane:

Double-click the folder/program name and add double quotes to the existing data:

    Example: C:\Program Files\Common Files\Borland

    becomes

    "C:\Program Files\Common Files\Borland"

Similarly, navigate to the following branch:

    HKEY_CURRENT_USER \ Software \ Microsoft \ Windows \ CurrentVersion\ Run

    Do the same as above

    Close regedit

    Reboot

Double click on the entry that pertains to Borland, this will open a box where you can change the value. In this box is where you use the quotes. Use the same text you see when the box first opens, only put quotes around it. Click OK

Instead of doing the registry thing, which you can do if you wish, go to Start>>Run and in Run type in "msconfig" (without the quotes)

Select the "Startup" tab and look to see if Borland Shared is listed. If it is then uncheck it, click "Apply" then OK.

A text box will open asking you if you want to exit without restart or exit with restart. Select exit/restart.

Upon boot another box will open showing you have changed blah, blah, blah, click on the box that says "don't show this message again", click OK.

If Borland is not in msconfig>>startup, do the registry thing.

See if there is a shortcut to Borland listed in the Startup folder. If not check the Windows directory "Tasks" folder and see if there is a listing for Borland.

Go to Start>>All Programs. Look to see if there is a listing "Startup". See if Borland is listed there or a listing for BDE.

Open My Computer>>Drive C>>Windows and look for the Tasks folder and open. See if Borland or BDE is listed.

    Check 2 places

Open My Computer>>Drive C>>Documents and Settings>>Your Profile Folder>>Start Menu>>Programs>>Startup. See if Borland or BDE is listed there.

    Also, Documents and Settings>>All Users>>Start Menu>>Programs>>Startup
