Whether in MS office or on the internet, I get the message within a few minutes. I will have to post before this shuts down.

It is slow and sluggish - painfully so.

No matter what I am doing, the computer locks up. I can't even get to the task list to close it. I have to use the on/off switch to shut it down.

I have a current backup. Perhaps I could restore to a previous date...

I am sure I have a virus but was told with the information I gave, it didn't appear to be the case. I had to be brief because when I wrote earlier, I didn't have this much time before it froze up.

If you have any reason to believe you may have a virus then please post in the malware support forum first to make sure your system is clean.

Hi, @LindaStough. It may be a hardware issue as well. However, it would be a good idea to get a clean bill of health from the Malware forum. I have requested that your post be moved into the Malware forum, so please don't make a new post there at this time.

Does the PC seem to freeze randomly or is there a set time it freezes ?

No we will not move to malware before troubleshooting is done in this forum
The original post was moved from malware so it could be investigated and the poster decided to ignore that post & start a new one
I have now merged both posts

I think it is this computer
HP Beats Special Edition 15-p071nr Notebook PC (ENERGY STAR)
    https://forums.techguy.org/threads/start-up-full-of-garbage.1157148/

    but now with Windows 10

I will attempt to help you, however once you start to work with me, please stay with the topic.
It is no use replying once and then leaving the topic.
That with respect is a waste of time for both of us.
IF at anytime you decide you do not want to proceed, simply please post such message and then I will not be waiting for a reply that is not arriving.

    1. Your computer
    https://support.hp.com/us-en/produc...000-notebook-pc/6936229/model/7261241/drivers

    2. It appears you had a similar problem when the computer had 8.1 on it

    3. Outdated apps, overheating inside the computer, viruses or malware, and hardware problems can cause lockups
We will forget viruses or malware for the time being, as indicated by my colleague dvk01, as without some suggested evidence of such, the first approach is to examine the more likely causes.

Therefore as a starting point, where do you use the computer when it locks up following the not responding message.
It needs to be able to draw air in for cooling and despite it being a notebook, on your lap or on a soft surface - is not the right place

    We will start here please
    http://hp.dezide.com/ts/start.jsp?guide=pclockupfreeze.net&as=true&section=ccweb&sfs=gts&lc=en
click on PC locks up randomly, then select windows 10 and follow guide - posting the results as shown at 4 on that link - after running the appropriate tests suggested

Please post results and we will proceed from there.
THIS is only the first test in what is likely to be a long job.

When you reply please type your reply in the box that appears when you return to the topic, not by clicking reply on my post as that will quote all of this back to me
