Anyone here familiar with (ie. have used) any add-ons for indexing Outlook attachments?
I've got about 875 emails with attachments that I need to go through and find only particular attachments that contains a specific text.
I just download/tried 80-20 which claims to index attachments but I tried searching for known text and the results always came up empty (it "looked" like it was indexing them so dunno).

most of these programs will only index the name of the attachments not any content inside the attachments

I don't know of anything that actually looks inside every attachment and catalogs it

lots do catalog/indx the emails themselves as you have found

Seriously?!
Crap... I just thought my Google skills were lacking today.
There is absolutely no way for me to distinguish these darn attachements. All are from the same email address an have the same subject and attachment name.
Thanks for responding though...
Man, wouldn't you think someone would have come up with something that could do this by now. Growl....

The only way I know is save all the attachments and the use windows file search which does look for text but it's very slow

it won't work if they are archives (zip files)

They are all just text files. Can't think of a way to try your suggestion for two reasons:
1. Not sure how to save 875 attachments without opening each and every email. (Oh, ya, in case I forgot to mention that above, it's actually 875 separate emails with 1 attachment per email).
2. Every file name is the same so wouldn't be able to save to same directory.
Life sux, heh?

Ill add that one to my list then

I've just had another thought though

have you tried google desktop search

according to their sales pitch it should also do that

We were looking at OUtlook toys rather than search toys

That was going to be my next try if X1 didn't work. I'd forgotten about it until just a few moments ago. I'll prob try any since the X1 software I have is just a trial.

Just tried Google's desktop search and it doesn't appear to index the contents of attachments. Guess I'll have to determine whether I want to spend $75 on the X1 Desktop search after the trial or not. At least it's saving my butt now!!!
