I am currently running windows xp, and am wondering how to stop certain programs from starting up when I turn windows on, for example....kazaa. I have turned then off in msconfig, but the computer never leaves diagnostic mode until I turn it back to normal....but then I still have those programs turning on at startup. Not a crucial problem -- just annoying :)
Thanks,
Bruce

When you go into msconfig you should choose selective startup not diagnostic startup. After choosing selective startup click on the startup tab and uncheck the programs you do not wish to start click apply and OK and you will restart. When it reboots you will get a dialogue box basically warning you of the changes just check the box that says "Don't show me this message again" and you should be set.

on programs such as kazaa and msn messenger if you disable them in msconfig, they will be checked again by the time you reboot, you actually have to go into the program and set the preferences so that it will not load at startup.
