Recently I have been having trouble with my computer (I suppose thats obvious). Certain programs that I have been trying to run start but immedietly close themselves.

This all started when I installed Sim2 Double Deluxe to play around with in my spare time. The game installed fine, but when I tried to launch it, nothing happened. I opened the task manager to see if it was even loading. Sure enough, it was, but it was closing within a second. No other process loads other than Sims2sp4. I started thinking it was some bad malware or spyware or something keeping it from opening. Before dealing with that, I went through EA's tech department as they step by step read through chapter 1 of the tech manual. And so I did as they asked:

    - Rebooted...
    - Went through task manager turning off processes and msconfig removing startup items and unneccessary services.
    - Downloaded new drivers for my video card and sound card
    - Turned off any cd emulation software (couldn't find any)
    - Turned off firewall (was off...perhaps why this has become such a problem?)
    - etc.

The last thing I was to told to do (again another something obvious) was to do a manual uninstall of the game to try to remove any corrupt files. And so I did. Went into program files deleting the folders. The problem really came to fruition when I delved into my registry to remove the sims2 from there. Typed "Regedit" into the run window, and 5 seconds later, the window closed. I tried to do this in safe mode, just incase it was a running process interfering with it. Again, closed in 5 seconds. This is where I came to think theres probably some nasty virus or malware affecting my computer. After browsing many forums, I downloaded and used a few programs including:

    - Ad-aware
    - Spy-Bot Search and Destroy
    - Norton Antivirus Internet Security 2009 (bought, figured it had been awhile since I had a decent antivirus program anyhow)
    - and Max Registry Cleaner

Several spyware / viruses / tracking cookies / bad registry files later, and I still havent fixed the original or the later problem. In fact, I've only come to find that I cant launch Ad-Aware either, the same thing happens and it wont load.

And so, I come here asking for help. I know I haven't been taking care of my computer like I should, but lets just consider this 1 step forward in my ability to manage my computer better.
