I recently upgrade a win 98SE machine to Win 2k Pro. The install went well but after several weeks of operating, this machine is in trouble.
After receiving CCapp errors all the time on startup, I discovered that the subscription had lapsed. Went to renewal it, and Iexplorer would terminate everytime you went to the symantec site. When I did get in, it would terminate (end then go back to the desktop). I was never able to renewal my subscription. Ran Norton AV from the Symantec security check and it reported 3 files infected with a "backdoor.trojan" virus. Norton had no removal tool and when I try to run Norton AV, it's startup screen starts then disappears.
Then I tried to install Norton AV 2007, again only a startup screen then it disappears. Tried to remove Norton AV from the add/ remove programs of Win 2k and it was unable, it's startup screen starts then disappears.
Tried to install a AV program called AVinstall. Again, its startup screen starts, then disappears. Finally, the last straw was to install HiJack This. Installed to the desktop, started it, then the startup window, asking you where to install, disappears within seconds.
I tried to look at MSConfig, however the OS reports the file is missing.
Any suggestions or help would be greatly appreciated
