Hi there, this is my first time to the forum. the problem i am experincing started a couple of days ago.

Just let me inform about the characteristics of my problematic computer.
Windows XP SP2, i use mozilla firefox and outlook express.

I have insstalled Avast Antivirus and Blackice utility for a fire wall, after my problem started i installed Spybot SaD, and a trial version of karspesky
It is as simple as complecate too...

When i logon in my computer, and after a minute, i am not able to run allmost no executable files. My real concern is that is am not getting any error messages i will give youan example on what i am able to run:

CM03-04 (Championship manager)
MS-excel,
and i can log in the net.

What i have tried to run but did not managed to make it run was:

winamp.exe
notepad.exe
mirc.exe
iexplorer.exe
regedit
command.com
word.exe (in this case i have a small error message:" Failed to open word in safe mode.do you want to start the fanction "spot and remake"" when i press yes, still it does not work)
(forgive me the mesage is not in henglish and i have to translate)

and lot more.

When i am trying to "run one of the files listed above i noticed that they do apear in task- manager (as they should to do) but after a few secconds "they kill them selfs" (as they should not do)

olso when my system startes up i am able to run any procces i wnat and if i manage to keep it running, then it has no problem until i shut the procces down (i cannot restart it)

I have logged in at safe mode and run all the antivirus and anti-spyware program that i mantioned above and i fixed about 93 problems, but the big one still excist.

sorry for the legth of the mesage i hope i was able to axplain it propely to you so you can help me.
And olso sorry for my modarate henglish but it is not my mother lunguage.

Hope i'll get an answer:)

and if not, i am glad i made my self a part of this community

I guess the best thing would be to take a look at a log from HijackThis. Click here to download HijackThis. Run the self extracting install to the default location. When it is finished, navigate to C:\Program Files\HijackThis and execute hijackthis.exe. Click on "Do a System Scan and Save a Log File". When it is finished, Notepad should open. Copy the contents of the log here as a reply. DO NOT ATTEMPT TO FIX ANYTHING USING HIJACKTHIS WITHOUT THE HELP OF AN EXPERT. Most of the entried in the log are either harmless or necessary. After posting your log, DO NOT REBOOT until you are instructed to do so.

Hopefully your inability to open Notepad will not keep HijackThis from opening the log for you.

You may want to print these instructions for use while in Safe Mode.

Before we begin I suggest you uninstall P2P Networking and SearchUpgrader from the Add/Remove list in the Windows Control Panel if they are available in that list.

We must also be sure that you can see all hidden files. See here for instructions.

1. Download Pocket Killbox Don’t run it yet!
2. Download CCleaner. Install it, but don’t actually run it yet. Just choose the defaults for the installation.
3. Run HijackThis and click on “Do a System Scan Only”.
4. With all Internet Explorer and Windows Explorer windows closed, place a check beside ONLY the following item:

R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Toolbar,LinksFolderName = Συνδέσεις
R3 - URLSearchHook: (no name) - {00D6A7E7-4A97-456f-848A-3B75BF7554D7} - (no file)

Click on FIX CHECKED

5. Close HijackThis and Reboot into Safe Mode. If you are unsure how to do this read here.
Once in Safe Mode, Double-click on Killbox.exe to run it. Now put a tick by Standard File Kill. In the "Full Path of File to Delete" box, copy and paste each of the following lines one at a time then click on the button that has the red circle with the X in the middle after you enter each file. It will ask for confimation to delete the file. Click Yes. Continue with that same procedure until you have copied and pasted all of these in the "Paste Full Path of File to Delete" box.

C:\WINDOWS\System32\sfg_649c.dll
C:\WINDOWS\System32\sfg_649c.dll
C:\Documents and Settings\ΑΝΘΗ ΑΝΘΗ\Local Settings\Application Data\microsoft\internet explorer\V0.15.dat

Note: It is possible that Killbox will tell you that one or more files do not exist. If that happens, just continue on with all the files. Be sure you don't miss any.

Exit the Killbox.

Delete these 2 directories:

C:\Program Files\Common files\SearchUpgrader
C:\WINDOWS\System32\P2P Networking

6. Start CCleaner and click the Run Cleaner button in the lower right corner. When it is finished, close it.

Now hide those files that we made visible in the beginning. They are hidden by default for a good reason. Just follow the same instructions, but we want them hidden now.

9. Reboot normally, and run HijackThis again. This time when you run it, click “Do a System Scan and Save a Log File”.

10. Post a fresh log back here as a reply. We like to know that we’ve completed the job.
11. For good measure, run an ActiveScan online here. You will be prompted to install an ActiveX control in order to do the scan. Let it install! A window will pop up with scan options. Check all of them. Then click “All My Computer” on the left. Let it delete anything that it can’t clean. If you like, you can post the results of that scan here too along with your latest HJT log.

I'm assuming that you are getting this error in "normal" mode. Try following
the instructions in Safe Mode. Of course, leave out the part that says reboot into safe mode.
