promise chip

    explain to me what a promise chip is for. in BIOS i can choose disabled, ATA or RAID. plz explain

    Promise is a company that makes controller cards for hard drives and other stuff. You are at the place where you select what type of hard drives you are using in your system, either ATA style ("regular" IDE) or RAID, (Redundant Array of Inexpensive Disks).
    If you only have a single drive, go with ATA setting.
