Whenever I open Word, I get this error message:

Winword has caused a general protection fault in module hpbf3120.drv.

I can't find any information on this error message, or the specific driver for that matter. Does anyone know anything about how to fix this error?

Thanks for any help you can provide. :)

By the way, the operating system in Win98.

For some reason I couldn't copy the URL for this page. This is from HP printer support site.

I hope this is what you're looking for.

I would re-install the printer drivers, from the installation disk that came with the printer first. That might work for you.

HP Color LaserJet and LaserJet Family Printers - Problems Printing from the Internet

ISSUE: Avoiding difficulties when printing directly from an Internet site to an HP LaserJet Family printer. Printing directly from Internet sites may result in difficulties printing to an HP LaserJet printer. Symptoms include:

The printer does not respond.
The printer ejects a blank page.
The printout does not match the screen.
The printing process is very slow.
Problems may occur when attempting to print either text or graphics.
General protection fault in hpbf3120.drv error received when printing using the PCL6 driver to print from the Internet. This typically occurs when printing from PostScript (R) applications.
SOLUTION: The following steps may resolve some issues when printing directly from the Internet.

Verify that the most current version of the Internet browser (for example, Netscape or MS Internet Explorer) is being used. Check the browser's homepage to download the most current version.
Download the file and save the information on the hard drive or on a diskette. Open and print the file from within a Windows application using the following instructions.
Try printing the document/page using the PostScript printer driver (particularly when printing from PostScript or Adobe (R) applications).
Install a universal Microsoft (R) printer driver that is compatible with the HP LaserJet printer and select the universal Microsoft driver to print with the Internet.
NOTE: If the product requires a host-based driver, you will be unable to print to the product using a universal driver.

Perform the following steps to download the file and save the information on the hard drive or diskette:
In the Internet browser program (for example, Netscape or MS Internet Explorer), select File and select Save As.
When prompted, enter the location where the file is to be saved.
Name the file and then select Save.
The file will be saved to the specified location.
Open the file and print from within a Windows application.
Use the following instructions to install a universal printer driver:
Windows 95/98
NOTE: The Microsoft Windows 95 and Windows 98 diskettes or CD-ROM may be required to install a universal driver.

From the Windows Desktop, select Start, Settings, then Printers.
Double-click Add Printer.
Select Next, until the Manufacturer/Printer screen appears.
Under the Manufacturers list, select HP; under the Printers list, select the appropriate universal driver (see the following Note).
Select LPT1 and select Next.
Under the Printer Name box, select No so that the universal driver is not set as the default; then, select Next.
When asked to print a test page, select No and then select Finish.
NOTE: For early HP LaserJet printers, select the matching universal Microsoft driver. For HP LaserJet printers that are not listed, select an earlier version of the model. For example, for the HP LaserJet 5Si printer, select a 4Si universal driver.

Windows 3.1X
NOTE: The Windows 3.1x diskettes may be required to install a universal driver.

From Program Manager, select the Main program group, Control Panel, then Printers.
Select Add.
Under the list of printers, select the appropriate universal Microsoft Windows 3.1x driver and select Install. (See the note below for driver selection.)
NOTE: For early HP LaserJet printers, select the matching universal driver. For HP LaserJet printers that are not listed, select the most recent driver. This will be a HP LaserJet III printer in Windows 3.1 and a HP LaserJet 4 and 4M printers in Windows 3.11.
