Is this the only file that this happens with?

Is it a raw file or a jpg?

    Will elments7 handle raw files?

Appreciate early on the day reply as well !

New Info: a) Your Q lead me to discover that (at this time- not in the recent Past!) only JEPEG's open in PSE "edit" - I verified this with multiple image file success JEPEG and multiple failure to open RAW files tried.

    b) I have no reason to think Elements 7 the problem- worked with RAW files manytimes in PSE "edit" modes.

    c) another "desperate look about" found this setting- maybe helpful?

Under "Preferences" (PSE "edit") "Prefer Adobe Camera Raw for Supported Raw Files" ("File"- "compatibility") is checked !!!!

    knowledge is power !

Are you selecting this file from a Windows Explorer (My Pictures) window?

If so, then the default for this file type is to to be opened by other program.

You might try, right clicking the file and then "Open with" and select PSE as the program to use. If this works, then next time you done the same thing, just make sure that there is a check mark in to box marked Always use.

    Is this a new camera?

PSE7 may not be able to read the Sony raw file without an update to the raw converter in PSE7.

I wasn't opening in " my pics" - but in the PSE "organizer" pane- HOWEVER !
In the spirit of your thinking- I went to my pics-opened a raw file- selected "choose a program" in the "open with" choice- selected PSE 7 & CHECKED THE BOX TO COMMAND "always open this type of file with"-
HIT ''OK'- PSE "edit" window opened & then slected file (image) jumped open in the unwanted sony editor !!!
