Running MacBook Air, MacOS Mojave, v 10.14.4. Unintentionally have more than 2,000 files in my trash basket, some in folders, some individual. The put-back function does not work when I try to put them back all at once or even in groups. Please help. Thank you.

Did you try dragging the files from the trash to a folder ?

No, I'd rather not revert to that. There are more than 2,000 files and folders. The "put back" function is there; it just doesn't respond or is grayed out.

Try right click on a file and then select "put back". Have you tried a restore from a backup?

Right-click on any file (or hold down Command to click and select multiple items, then Control-click), and you will see the "Put Back" option.

The 'PutBack' option only appears when you select one file in Trash but disappears if you choose several. Try just selecting one file to see if Put Back option appears.

Otherwise, you can try the time machine backup if you have or data recovery software to get back all the files and folders.

Try moving a few to your desktop, them moving them to the folder.
